So he built the opposite. Today he looks after New Zealand businesses, property owners and landlords - getting them stronger cover, sharper premiums and, when it counts, a broker who'll go toe-to-toe with the insurer on their behalf. Ryan is the one asking the hard questions, challenging the assessment nobody else questioned, and making sure clients get the outcome they're actually owed.

Twenty-five years in, Ashley has seen just about every risk a New Zealand business, property owner or family can run into - and, just as importantly, he's run businesses himself, so he gets it from both sides of the desk. He's at his best negotiating the terms and the wording others gloss over, and advocating hard when a claim needs a fight. Matt brings something a lot of brokers don't: he's been the business owner. With a background in business development and ownership - and a particular soft spot for hospitality - he knows what it's like to have real skin in the game, and it makes his advice refreshingly practical. Over the years he's built a genuine network of connections right across New Zealand, and an easy, straight-up way of working that business owners trust.
